Andrea Higgins

I am an education governance specialist with experience across several Colleges supporting curriculum design, program development, and academic quality processes. I hold a Graduate Certificate in Education Leadership and Management, and my work has been recognised through two College-level education awards and a Vice-Chancellor’s Commendation.

My roles at ANU have given me direct insight into how decisions made at senior levels translate into curriculum, systems, workload, and student experience across the University. I work closely with both academic and professional staff and I am committed to representing these perspectives clearly and constructively at Academic Board.

In the current environment, Academic Board has an opportunity to take a more active role in shaping academic strategy and strengthening our approach to academic risk. This includes more deliberate oversight of teaching quality, program integrity, and the long-term sustainability of our academic offerings, underpinned by fit-for-purpose academic structures, policies, and systems.

I recognise the value of drawing on expertise from across the University to support informed and collaborative decision-making. Professional staff bring diverse and important perspectives on how systems, processes, and policies function in practice. I would work to strengthen pathways for this knowledge to inform Academic Board discussions, supporting change that is effective and deliverable, particularly in a financially constrained environment.
