Dr Ruoying Chen

Biographical and Policy Statement

I am Senior Lecturer and Deputy International Director at the Law School, College of Law, Governance and Policy, the immediate ex-LLB/JD Program Director: the only undergraduate & graduate pathway for legal qualifications in Australia.

I have unique skills & perspectives to help hence the global outlook of ANU academia, with my extensive experiences across disciplines and industries and multi-cultural education background in countries with the highest strategic importance to Australia: China, UK and US.

For over 10 years, I worked as full-time faculty member at Peking University (No.1 in China, QS top 14) and the University of Chicago (QS top 13). Previously, I worked in emerging market for 6 years in one of the largest leading global law firms headquartered in London: am a qualified attorney in New York.

I have law degrees from three jurisdictions: LL.B. from China (Peking University), M.Juris (Oxford) and J.S.D. (Ph.D. in law, the University of Chicago). I received law & economics training at the University of Chicago, home to the world largest cohort of Nobel economics, and helped the faculty running 8 summer institutes on law & economics for law and social sciences scholars around the world.
